It records stated awareness at one point in time, not whether respondents had actually used portal sites.

The cited Entrepreneur article, a contributor opinion piece, does not publish the survey's methodology; it names only Franchise Insights as the researcher and January 2022 as the survey date.
What it does not tell you
Awareness of a label is not the same as use: someone unfamiliar with the term portal may still have visited such sites. The article does not report the sample size, how respondents were recruited or where they lived, so the result cannot be generalised to all prospective franchisees. The survey's own publication could not be opened for this review, so its methodology was not checked.
