84%
of portal deals went to enterprise brands
In Q2 2020, large enterprise brands captured 84% of portal-generated franchise deals; mid-market brands got 9%, emerging brands 7% and micro-emerging brands 1%.
The 84% is from FranConnect's Q2 2020 data published on Franchising.com, which suggested enterprise brands may do better partly because they typically employ lead qualifiers. The smaller-brand split is reported by Entrepreneur.

What this figure measures
The figure is the share of franchise deals originating from portals that went to enterprise brands in the second quarter of 2020, according to the original article. It measures closed deals, meaning franchise sales, rather than leads. The Entrepreneur piece adds shares for mid-market, emerging and micro-emerging brands; neither article states the unit-count thresholds that separate these size groups.
How it was produced
Entrepreneur's contributor credits Franchise Update Media. The earliest source found is a September 2020 Franchising.com article, published by Franchise Update Media and written by a FranConnect executive, reporting FranConnect's 2020 Franchise Sales Index. That index analysed franchise sales data for the first half of the year and compared portal deals in the second quarter with those in the first.
What it does not tell you
The split covers a single quarter early in the Covid pandemic, when portal deals rose 31% for enterprise brands and fell 59% for smaller segments, so it may not describe a typical period. The source author suggests part of the gap reflects enterprise brands employing lead qualifiers. The data come from one software company's sample of brands, and the smaller groups' shares do not appear in the original article's text.
